Big Pharma To The Rescue!
Why the Supreme Court Will Shock The World And Support Medication Abortions!
Normally, I’d have nothing but disdain for Big Pharma.
However, in the showdown between the radical, right-wing judiciary and those seeking the sensible, stable course in the matter of medication abortions, Big Pharma’s interests will prove crucial as the Supreme Court will actually render a decision that provides support for abortion rights.
I’m not sure how they will manage it, but one can rest assured that the Court’s soon-to-be-revealed decision will maintain the status quo and allow all medication abortions to continue.
Why would the Court do such a thing? Something that appears to be so at odds with the recent Dobbs decision?
Easy. As much as the Court loves them some anti-abortion nonsense, it is an even bigger sucker for corporate interests. And there is no bigger corporate party of interest than Big Pharma. And Big Pharma is, without question, totally against the kind of head-spinning revolution the Texas judge would install with his radical decision. The reasons are obvious and have been articulated by many so I won’t repeat them here, but Big Pharma sincerely hates the thought of taking a profitable drug, with over 20 years of history, off the market. One can only begin to estimate the lost profits if that were to happen.
So they’ve joined forces with erstwhile foes - the left - and are pleading - in every sense - for the Supreme Court to allow the drug at issue now - mifepristone- to continue on the market, as it has for decades. If the left were at the defendant’s table alone, making this same request, you can be certain the Court would develop a severe case of failed hearing. However, with Big Pharma backing them up and making their own loud arguments, you can bet this Court will be surprisingly sympathetic to the call to let the status quo on abortion pills reign.
For once and for a short while, at least, I’ll be happy to praise corporate interests and Big Pharma.
